Why Don't People Wear Safety Belts?
Even though belt use in the U.S. is up to 80 percent, non-users give two main reasons why they don't wear a safety belt: they forgot to put the belt on - or they were only going a short distance. Other reasons for non-use include: discomfort, not wanting to be told what to do, a false concern about safety belts being dangerous, lack of making belt use a habit, or simply not feeling like wearing them. To those who have made safety belt use a habit - or who have had their lives saved by using one, those aren't reasons - they sound more like excuses.
